CONSUMED. by avaris
Some men make fortunes, but not to enjoy them; for, consumed by avarice, they live to make fortunes

Howling Mad

I spent the entire day being extremely stoned because I think the lack of sleep before Patho has come back to haunt me in a rather severe manner, and I felt really awful that during lunch with my juniors today I was staring blankly into space most of the time, my lethargy exacerbated by the post-prandial stupor induced by a rich Spaghetti Carbonara and Apple Cobble.

Even now I'm feeling pretty half-dead, and that is why I shall just blog rubbish instead of commenting on certain noteworthy pieces of news that have been popping up lately. Like the anti-secession law, which I think is China just being a tyrant and living in the Qing Dynasty and wanting to just rule everything, because yeah I've always supported Taiwanese independence even though it'd bring war (and even if it does it's all China's fault because they can't let go, for goodness' sake) and I shake my head at our government announcing its support for the law because it reeks of supporting the big playground bully (eeks I hope I don't get caught for saying this). I don't think I'd ever make a good politician, mainly because I can never be objective. If I don't like China, I'll say it.

And then there's the Government's move towards banning smoking in public places. I personally don't like inhaling tobacco smoke, but I don't think this law solves any problems. So what if you ban smoking in bus shelters? Smokers are probably going to stand outside the shelters and smoke, and the foul products will still drift into the shelter anyway. Or have we not heard of diffusion? I get really irritated whenever I walk in and out of a department store or shopping centre and have to pass through this veritable foul halo of tobacco smoke, and I think perhaps in order to protect our health, the government should look into making more enclosed walkways between shopping centres than trying to impose bans that are quite evidently impractical. Might as well go around painting little yellow boxes.

So much for not commenting. I got carried away, and strangely I feel more awake now; perhaps being incensed can increase alertness.

I went to watch Howl's Moving Castle yesterday, and I think the highlight of the movie was Howl himself, because the moment you hear him speak his face turns into Kimura Takuya, so distinctive and characteristic is Kimura's way of speaking and voice, and the charm that exudes from that voice alone just suits the role of Howl like a glove. The artwork was fantastic, though at points I was wondering at the similarity of appearance of many of the characters, as well as their resemblance to some from Spirited Away. I didn't get the story much, and was thinking of getting the book from the library to read, only to find out that all the books are reserved or on loan. Looks like I'm not the only one thinking of reading the book.

Speaking of Kimura Takuya, I got very excited today because I saw a trailer on television of this Japanese drama that's coming to Channel U in April, and which will be showing on weekday evenings. Finally, having a Jap drama in a convenient primetime slot is such a boon for fans like us because all this while they've been slotting Jap dramas on Saturday afternoons and at nights, making them so troublesome to watch because I keep missing episodes. And it's Kimura Takuya! Can't wait.
