Being retarded
So it happens that in the news the other day I read that some underwater cable that Starhub uses to provide us with high-speed cable internet connections got severed (what, by some gigantic squid? How, pray tell, does a cable buried under the sea bed get severed? Or maybe it's not under the sea bed like I think but actually just suspended like a unbelievably long skipping rope across the ocean waiting for some dumb whale to swim into it and go whee this is my lucky day it's noodles!). You can tell I'm cranky. I'm assuming this totally accidental disruption of The Cable is the cause for my unfathomably dismal connection speeds over the weekend. It better be, because I can't take any more of this. My downloads are not moving at all!
A friend once asked me, after I subscribed to cable internet, whether I could ever, at that point in time, imagine going back to the days before cable and using dial-up. It's quite true that once you get used to using the net with speeds of nearly 200kb/s the prospect of going back to dial-up speeds is considerably horrifying. The woe. That stupid cable better be fixed soon. First it was the underground cable in Paya Lebar (which didn't really affect me, but I sensed some decrease in speeds) and now this undersea cable. One more and I could start suspecting a conspiracy to turn Starhub users to other providers of high-speed internet.
Hey why is the wireless light on my router blinking when we don't use a wireless network at home? ZOMG is someone stealing my internet? This is not good. Either I need help to stop people from stealing my internet, or I need to be less suspicious about everything. But I am somehow convinced. That my internet is being stolen.
I sound totally off my rocker. That's the result of looking at too much Harry Potter slash (refer previous post, last paragraph) which has totally burnt my mind to little frizzled bits of fluff. And now I'm totally thinking of buying The Sims 2 instead of concentrating on studying for end-of-posting test. I heard our Medicine tester is quite "famous". Dear me.
In updates from other sectors of my mundane life, my mother is currently very afraid of leaving the house because this guy living on the floor below us has considerable violent tendencies and tried to punch my mom some days ago when she saw him at the void deck. Apparently he's normally fine but hasn't been taking his medication, and my mom knows this because, well, she knows a lot of things. My dad suggested calling the police but my mom doesn't want to because she knows the guy's sister and it'd be quite bad to get the guy arrested. So now the family has been put on yellow or orange alert or something (Bwahahaha Homeland Security indeed) and I'm a teeny bit worried because I don't know the number of our neighbourhood police post. [Sidenote: Ever since primary school I've told myself that it's very very important to know the number of your neighbourhood police post because you don't call 999 whenever you feel like it, but I still don't know what the number is. Which is bad.]
Little wrinkles in the general fabric of life. I should really go and read more of Talley and O'Connor. And no, despite what all tutors say I haven't finished reading it yet. The woe. Spending all day looking at the download speeds of my torrents willing them to go faster wastes
a lot of time, as if I haven't learnt that fact by now.
Hrm the wireless light isn't blinking anymore. Good sign.
