Cry me a liver
Hello people. I am really trying to post more often so you all don't run away and blacklist my blog as a non-entity for all eternity. Thanks for still popping in to check for new entries once in a while. Goodness knows I have so little of a life I check everyone's blogs at least once a day for updates, bleh.
Psychomed came and went, perhaps a little bit too long for my liking (by the end of it I was wondering if we were stuck in a loop of time that refused to let us move out of the horror, and yes, I'm exaggerating). Test was not too good, but I passed, goody, and I don't want to think about psych until M5. I have this terrible suspicion that my mind has been grossly warped by the posting, though, because I was clerking someone with abdominal pain today and a little corner of my mind was going "It's somatisation disorder!" which it so obviously isn't. I need help.
First day of electives today at SGH, doing gastroenterology with a particular interest in liver diseases (because stigmata of chronic liver disease pwnz, and I totally love jaundice - this sounds a little sick), and so far it's been excellent because we have a really nice tutor who has this nice British-sounding accent (which is lovely) and following the gastro team on rounds this morning was entertaining and rewarding, to say the least. Internal medicine is certainly a great joy to practice, but I've forgotten how to take a proper medical history, drats. Must go brush up on my clerking, but at least my abdo exam was still pretty smooth (it is, after all, the easiest physical examination to perform).
I'm quite thankful that electives look to be really enjoyable, because certainly I need to find that sense of contentment and ease that I lost after CHP and which Psychomed didn't help me get back. I've been feeling really moody recently, with apologies to the people who have to put up with my cranky spells, so hopefully this 8 week period will be a good time for me to get a breath of fresh air, re-attain that state of comfortable equilibrium that kept me buoyed and happy for most of last year, so I can start year 4 with happiness and not apprehension. (EMED!)
Hah that sounded really weird and cheesy.
I've been experiencing a dearth of inspiration for good posts (due to lack of properly stimulating reading material), but perhaps with the upcoming GE (not gastroenteritis, but General Election, though we can expect diarrhoea, of the verbal kind, heh) I can have something other than boring old hospital life to talk about. Must be careful not to get sued though.
