Clapping with one hand
A short update on my life, which as usual is most boring.
Medical elective posting ended one week ago but I wish I could have done a medical elective for all 8 weeks. I think the people who do Emergency Medicine for surgical electives are very clever, because then you can essentially do medicine for all 8 weeks. Maybe I'll try that next year, bwahaha. I know it gets tiring when I wax lyrical about my medical electives, but I really worship my elective tutor and am very thankful for all the interesting and useful information he has imparted to us about liver diseases, especially in the interpretation of liver function tests. Who knew LFTs could tell such a detailed story? Reading LFTs is an art, just like reading ECGs, and I feel like I've got the hang of it, haha, but there's much more to learn.
One week of surgical elective over, also at SGH. My elective tutor is a really nice and humorous person who is quite fun to follow around. Except for the fact that he's in the vascular team right now and vascular surgery, though important, is kind of boring for me. I really prefer the GI aspects of surgery (and no wonder I like Gastroenterology) and the billions of differentials for the presenting complaints of GIT surgical conditions. And there's nothing better for ruining your day than seeing diabetic foot ulcers in the clinic, especially those that smell and ooze fluid. DM is such a terrible disease. I wonder how we're going to do vascular surg for 4 weeks without dying of boredom.
Anyway most of my friends will know I'm not exactly the surgical kind of person, so I will naturally complain a lot about the boredom of surgical electives compared to medical electives. It's quite interesting to observe how at this point in time between year 3 and 4 a large proportion of us medical students are already starting to lean towards either surgical specialties or medical ones, and are walking down diverging paths already. I don't dislike surgery really, it's just that I lean more towards the challenge of doing medicine.
It's really postdated to comment about this, but I'm glad they let Gomez off with only a warning. I can see that the government is trying to move away from the tactics that characterised the earlier leaders, and that is a good sign for our country. With what they're doing, they might actually convince me to vote for them the next time round, if my GRC still exists for there to be a second battle between the hammer and the lightning bolt, haha.
Anyway, I went to the John Little sale with my parents last week, and as usual my mom had to make fun of me by picking up a light blue shirt and saying, "Do you want to buy a shirt in this colour? Worker's Party colours!" Bleh. Not funny. Wait get caught on CCTV.
[Bitchfit] of the day: It makes me frustrated when I stand outside a door wondering whether to knock, wondering if the person behind the door will come open it or is busy with something else, and when I finally gather enough courage to do so the door isn't opened, just my lousy luck, and I don't know if I should just go home and come another day. Not the first time it's happened, mind you. If you're not at home then don't leave the light on and let me think you are, please just do all of us that favour, thank you.
*deep breath* I really needed to do that. [/bitchfit]
That's all I guess. Have a good time.
