A little bit of mad gushing

I'm posting really inane and mundane (and plain, because the rhyme was getting to me) stuff because I am happy to. Haha. Whatever keeps my blog from dying, yes?

I went out with George yesterday for lunch and shopping, to celebrate his birthday, which is today. Happy 22nd, George! Lunch was at Toast, which I had wanted to try for a long time after reading about it on plhu's blog (seriously, there are so much restaurants that plhu blogged about that I want to eat at; I haven't eaten at the ramen restaurant at Orchard Shopping Centre yet, and I want to go Basil Alcove also), and I tried the Masala Chicken Wrap, recommended by George, while he had the Wild Mushroom Soup. Excellent stuff. I'm definitely going back to try the other sandwiches/wraps on the menu, if I can find people to go with me. Who wants to go Basil Alcove? The review in Straits Times today made it sound so irresistably good, gah.

After lunch and a bit of shopping around Orchard we went to Expo for the Penguin Books warehouse sale, highly recommended by Liying. And it was quite an impressive warehouse sale, at least for me. Not like those sales where they have too many copies of books that no one wants and you can't find anything good; this sale had a lot of recently-published books albeit with some small flaws (nothing that I could perceive as being extremely disfiguring besides some creases and black stains) at insanely cheap prices, most of the normal paperbacks going at 3 or 5 dollars and the larger books at 8 dollars. I picked up a huge pile and then had to cut down because I had a limited budget. In the end I got Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys ($5), Alexander McCall Smith's 44 Scotland Street ($5) and Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian ($8), three great books for a wickedly cheap total of 18 dollars. Now I just have to find the time to read them, heh.

Tried to study today, after spending two and a half hours in the morning catching up on newspapers which I haven't read since Thursday. I spent two hours and only managed to get through the first chapter of Robbins. Why is it this seems so much more painful than the Patho mugging I did in year 2? Probably because I've forgotten 99% of what we studied, I think. Woe and doom.

Ophthalmology posting starts tomorrow at Singapore National Eye Centre, which people tell me is a very good place. That's good, I hope the posting will be an interesting, enjoyable, fruitful and eye-opening one, pardon the pun. We'll all be good pupils, I should think, if we don't become a sight for sore eyes. Hurhur.

I really like my new desktop wallpaper; I've been using my House wallpaper for nearly a year, I think, and while it's nice to see Hugh Laurie every day, after a while it gets a little boring. The new wallpaper, courtesy of grrliz:

Not that Voldemort's my favourite character, but this image of him (taken from the OotP poster) looks great. I keep getting the illusion he's reaching out of my monitor with that hand of his, which is cool. And having a near-black desktop is quite refreshing.

P.S. I'd like to apologise to people who have been trying to comment on my blog but are getting their comments deemed to be spam; I have absolutely no idea why the mad comments box does this, and it treats me as spam a lot of the time too. I'm sorry. Try again at another time? I might consider getting a new comments box, but that would mean losing all my old comments.. Argh.
