Yo ho, yo ho

Just a quick post. I figure with the time I'm already wasting sitting in front of the computer (I've been here for the last 3 hours!) it won't be much more if I take some time to write a post.

I popped by the IT Fair at Suntec over the weekend. More specifically, at about 6pm Sunday evening. Yes, some kind of madness had me in its grip. I finally made up my mind to burn a hole in my pocket and get a portable hard drive (something I've been wanting for like 2 years but not getting thanks to procrastinating and being miserly), and I thought maybe there would be a discount on the last day. Turned out there wasn't a discount on the particular drive I wanted, but I bought it anyway. I got nagged at by my mom because they had run out of the free gift (some "limited edition" cover/bag thingey for the drive) and she said I should have asked them for an additional discount or at least asked them if I could collect it from their company another day. Meh, I'm totally lousy at buying things on my own.

The crowd was kind of insane; I had to wait for 10 minutes to cross the overhead bridge between One Raffles Link and Suntec because there were so many people. I think it's a wonder the temporary-looking overhead bridge managed to suffer the load of so many people and not collapse under the stress. I saw a few tourists looking rather bemused and overwhelmed by the sheer morass of people heading across the bridge, and thought that if I saw such a sight in another country I'd be quite bewildered. I'd already found out that the booth I was looking for (Seagate/Maxtor) was on the 6th floor so I decided to quickly dart in and find the booth, then get what I was there for, and leave, so it wasn't all that bad. At least I didn't get squashed that much.

I'm quite happy with my new portable hard drive; it's 100GB and cost $149, very portable at 13 by 9 cm, and around 200 grams in weight. I shall use it to store all my downloaded anime and TV series heh, because my CD writer has been acting cranky lately and I'm too lazy to burn all my stuff into CD-Rs. Admittedly it won't take long before I fill up the 100GB, but I think there's no point in keeping certain series unless it's for the purpose of passing them on to other people. Some things you just know you won't bother watching again, or won't have time to.

Studying is going downhill after a good first two weeks; this week I've been mostly at home except for yesterday when I went to look at the pots and slides. This is out of sheer laziness at going to school, because the morning MRT crowd makes me very cranky. Staying at home has naturally been a poor choice for studying purposes because I hardly do anything productive, with my mom watching television outside all day (and some series on cable running into their final episodes this week, with other new series starting - worst case scenario). I was really more disciplined when I was studying for O&G, and I refused to leave the room when my brother was watching Prison Break VCDs. Argh. Tomorrow, I will go to school and study, and it will redeem the non-productivity of the past week.

An interesting link I found: Wee Planets (As an aside I never know how people find interesting links, but I find mine on other people's websites so I guess that's how they found theirs; I cannot imagine trawling through the net looking for interesting things, just as I can't contemplate opening YouTube and looking for funny videos - why not just wait for someone to find them and then tell you about it haha).
This guy takes equirectangular panoramas of places in France and converts them into planet-like pictures. Totally amazing stuff and the pictures look almost unreal and computer-generated. The original panoramas are breathtaking when you open them in full size, and I'm totally blown away. I spent the last 1 hour looking at these pictures, is what I've been doing, so I guess I should warn against the distractive power of this site.

And a YouTube video WM told me about, a MadTV skit parodying Apple and the Iraq war.

Take a short break from your mugging to enjoy, if you will. =)
