Tardus et parvus

Finally finished my backposting for the break period so can put my blogging efforts back into current posting heh. I think the twitter thing is quite useful for short blogposts when I don't have enough material for a proper post, but the 140 character limit is starting to grate a little, seeing as how I tend to be overly verbose. I guess it's also a good thing for me to force myself to be succinct heh.


Mid-elective report: Things are going pretty well, and I'm enjoying myself. This is turning out to be a pretty slack elective because we only have to join our tutor for morning rounds on Thursday and Friday, and anyway he's in charge of only 2 five-bedder rooms i.e. 10 patients, so his rounds end in less than an hour. We meet him for tutorials almost every day when he doesn't have a clinic session, and we've seen a lot of interesting short cases like scleroderma, homonymous hemianopia, fibrosing alveolitis, and many others. SGH is such a wonderful treasure trove of good cases. Our schedule involves spending about two hours in the wards in the morning, usually looking for cases to examine during tutorial or clerking long cases, then to lunch, and back to the wards for tutorial in the afternoon.

I am often totally awestruck by the amount of information my tutor still remembers, and also by the way he ties many tiny observed bits of information together into one common pathology that results in the various signs. We were examining a patient with a wasted hand (thenar wasted along with the other intrinsics) and going through the various causes of hand wasting; he then showed us TKA scars on the patient's knees and suggested that perhaps she might have cervical spondylosis involving the T1 nerve root. It's the kind of thing which you wouldn't think of but he manages to notice, that is really quite awe-inspiring. And it's rather amazing when we read Baliga after tutorials and find most of what he taught us listed inside the book. How he can still remember all this stuff from his MRCP days. He's always so nice and patient to his patients too, never losing his cool even with difficult patients in the clinic.

From this week onwards our tutor will probably not be able to meet us so much because the M2s are coming to do their CSFC and he has to take them for tutorials as well. That is also a good thing, I suppose, because we feel like we've covered almost every system in short cases, and it's getting a bit difficult to find other interesting cases to examine during tutorials. We're concentrating on long cases now.


Just wanted to gush that the new Bleach opening sequence is absolutely awesome, and the song is also very easy on the ears and catchy, and goes well with the animation. I keep getting goosebumps when I watch it, and I've watched it more than 10 times already (just keep repeating it after I've finished watching an episode). [spoiler] The image of Inoue in an Arrancar uniform invokes endless curiosity. [/spoiler]

I also totally want to watch Love and Honour (the obvious reason being because it has Takuya Kimura in it). It's only showing at GV Plaza Sing and GV Vivocity though, but I guess it's not that inconvenient for me to get to these places via the NEL from SGH. Maybe later this week, I will go watch. ^__^
