Count on Him

Medicine elective with Dr C ended yesterday, and boy, it was a real fun four weeks. The sheer number of cases we've seen and examined (because it's just two of us, we practically end up getting to both examine the patients we see, either for short or long cases) kind of makes me feel like after two years in clinical life, I have only just begun to scrape the tip of the iceberg that is medicine. Our year 3 medicine posting in AnnYouH? Pooi, that was a farce, but at the beginning there was the feeling that even at that superficial level, we were struggling to keep afloat. I guess medicine is a process of continual learning - once you know something, you'll then naturally go to the next level, and so on.

I probably shouldn't start rambling, otherwise it might be rather nightmarish for readers.

After our last tutorial with Dr C yesterday we got him to take a photo with us - I think he was rather amused by my eagerness to take a photo (we had actually wanted to take it the day before and get it printed out so we could give it to him, but he wasn't free to take it with us) for remembrance's sake. All my electives in EssJeeH have been so very memorable because of the wonderful people there. The photo is in J's camera, and since she's flown off to Nepal this morning I don't have it with me and can't post it here; maybe I'll do so when she gets back.

somehow we were in a rather high mood, and kept laughing at strange things, like when we had to find the courage to go into an A class room to ask a patient if we could examine her. At lunch we talked about weird tutors we've had before (like our medicine posting tutor and her various quirks, as well as the elective students that accompanied us during that posting), and eventually ended up talking about shouting "hot cross buns" at a particular orthopaedic surgeon and running away. J had the idea that we should play a little prank on tutors we pass by in hospital corridors (I'm sure everyone has that experience where there's some pretense both on the tutor's and the student's part of not seeing/recognising one another, and the awkwardness involved) by bowing ninety degrees to them and shocking them a little. Haha, maybe we should try that sometime.

Scooted off about 2, after lunch, because J had to go home and pack for her trip, and I didn't really feel like staying in the wards or going out shopping. Feeling a bit poor lately haha, what with pre-ordering Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and that Phantom of the Opera ticket.

The thought suddenly hit me yesterday that I had better set a multitude of reminders for myself that I have to go watch Phantom of the Opera on 19 May, because that day may very well come along and go with me totally forgetting that I have bought a ticket for that day. Which would be really stupid and induce me to kill myself. Heh.

Erm nothing much to blog about (unless we end up going out to eat today - it's Mom's birthday - and I could post some pictures of food, hopefully interesting food), so I'll just end off here with a really funny video. It's been making its rounds in the internet so many of you may have watched it, but please do watch it if you haven't. I'm risking my life here, lol. It's just 3 minutes, and loads really fast, for some strange reason. Enjoy! Oh, warning for Hokkien vulgarity, just one sentence, with censoring beeps.
